Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 posted a very thought-provoking video. They interviewed nine Singaporeans from different backgrounds about their views on race and racism here. It is well worth watching.
It is an open and frank discussion, and a timely one. With Racial Harmony Day around the corner, I hope we will examine our own behaviours and place ourselves in others’ shoes, to better appreciate how others may feel.
We cannot take racial harmony in Singapore for granted. Racial issues are always sensitive. But as these nine interviewees show, we can have honest and civil conversations and bridge understanding without being offensive, or getting defensive. It is an encouraging sign that we can build a more cohesive, yet diverse society together. – LHL
